Ph.D. Students
Md Shafiqul Islam
Md Shafiqul Islam obtained his B.S. in Industrial and Production Engineering from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. Before joining the Ph.D. program, he worked as a production engineer at Avery Dennison Corporation and an Industrial Engineer at the Textile Division of SQUARE Group. By participating in different projects and research work in the lab, he wishes to make accessible physical training systems for people with diverse functional capabilities.

Saman Jamshidnezhad Zahabi
Saman Jamshid Nezhad obtained his bachelor’s degree in Solid mechanics from the University of Tehran and his master’s degree in Occupational Biomechanics from the Sharif University of Technology. His research investigates the potential of using wearable sensors in monitoring occupational safety and health in field settings. He is working on developing machine learning algorithms to estimate occupational risk factors during lifting tasks.

Mohammad Sadra Rajabi
Mohammad Sadra Rajabi obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering, both from the University of Tehran. He has conducted research projects in the construction and building safety and Building Information Modeling domains before joining VT. He used virtual reality to enhance the quality of earthquake safety training systems. He also applied machine learning algorithms to identify the risk of material handling tasks on construction job sites. His research interests are in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Multi-Human Multi-Robot collaboration systems.

Mahdis Tajdari
Mahdis Tajdari is a first-year CS Ph.D. student. She earned her B.S. degree from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. She is interested in creating accessible system for marginalized groups of society, such as people with functional impairments. She is currently involved in a haptic glove project for object navigation for people with impaired vision. She is also a part of a study that uses wearables to analyze the movements of older adults during remote exercise. In addition, she is interested in the applications of AR and VR in healthcare settings.

Masters Students
Sakshi Pranay Taori
Sakshi is pursuing a MS in Electrical Engineering at Virginia Tech. She has a Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech) in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from VJTI College, Mumbai. Her current project aims to classify external load levels in manual lifting using a wearable armband with sEMG sensors. Being naturally empathetic, she believes that the combined efforts taken in this direction will surely achieve the goal of maintaining a healthy work-life balance for everyone.
